Time is precious. We care more about time than anything else in the world.
How much time do we have to eat? How many more minutes can we stay in bed? How much time until we have to be at work? Do we have enough time to go to the gym?
Truth be told, nobody has enough time. We’re all busy, which is why you shouldn’t let a silly thing like time get in the way of your workout. Personally, I don’t have the time to be in the gym countless hours a day. I’ve come to realize that I have approximately an hour and ten minutes to get my workout in before life gets in the way. Although my time is limited, it doesn’t mean that I can’t get as much out of my workout as I would if I spent three to four hours exercising. You see, I found a way to structure my workout so I could complete my whole routine in that limited amount of time. What is my secret? One word…
For all of you that don’t know what a superset is, it’s when you perform two exercises back-to-back without any rest in between. You can do supersets for the same body part, or you can choose to work two muscles at the same time. My personal preference is to superset one body part at a time, but it’s completely up to you.
On one hand, if you choose to work two different muscles, the benefit is that one of your muscles can rest while the other one works. Ideally, you want to pair muscles that are opposite to one another, such as shoulders and back. On the other hand, if you choose to work the same muscle, the benefit is that you get to focus your energy on that single body part. For example, if you feel like you want to focus on your biceps for growth, I would recommend doing a single body part superset.
I’m not an expert, so everything I’m telling you comes from my own personal experience. For me, the benefits of doing supersets are numerous. First of all, they save you time. You can complete your entire routine in a short amount of time because you’re not resting in between sets. Also, it keeps your heart rate up causing you to burn more calories. Most of all, you feel the difference. Based on my experience, I can tell you that by doing supersets, I feel like I’m getting more out of my workout than I would otherwise. I’ve seen the difference in my body – in terms of building muscle – by performing supersets, which is why I recommend it.
If you’re looking to play around with your regular routine, I encourage you to try it!
