What Does Health Mean to You?

Can you look good physically but feel horrible in the inside? Absolutely. Can you feel great on the inside but not look so good on the outside? Absolutely. So, it's all about balance.

Before we begin, I want you to ask yourself what it means to be ‘healthy?’

Does it mean being in shape? Does it mean a specific number? Does it mean being content with who you are? Or, is it just something people say when they want to become something they are not?

I can’t tell you how many times people believe the word ‘health’ is synonymous to their physical appearance. I’m not saying that how you look is not part of the ultimate goal of being healthy, but what I am saying is that it shouldn’t be the defining factor. I’ve learned throughout the years that being healthy involves your body, mind and soul. Does that sound cliche yet? If so, well it so happens to be the truth.

Let’s try an exercise…  Imagine that you look the best you’ve ever looked in your life. By feeling confident in your shell (like I like to call it), you start feeling more confident in what you wear, how you walk and in who you are, which ultimately makes you happier. Now, imagine that you are at place in your life where you’re just happy – outside of work and the usual stress, there’s nothing that’s really bothering you. By being in a positive mental state, you might start exercising and doing things for yourself, which ultimately makes you happier.

Can you tell where I’m going with this yet?

If not, let me break it down for you. Being healthy does involve eating the right nutrients and taking care of your body, but it also involves taking care of your inner self. Being at peace with yourself and your surroundings is one of the most important things about being healthy. Can you look good physically but feel horrible in the inside? Absolutely. Can you feel great on the inside but not look so good on the outside? Absolutely. So, it’s all about balance.  Under this point of view, will you ever be completely 100% healthy? I’m not sure. The way I see it, you should work on your health every day, because life will hit you with some curve balls that are going to disturb the balance you seek.

Personally, I’m a huge gym rat… so being all about the gym is perfectly fine with me. However, I’ve learned to prioritize my happiness. I need you to understand that looking good is just one factor that contributes to your overall well-being.

If you want to be healthy, you need to focus on three things….

  1. Healthy mind
  2. Healthy soul
  3. Healthy body

How do you start?

First off, get rid of all the negative energy in your life. Distance yourself from people that threaten your growth. For God’s sake, get to KNOW YOURSELF (I promise you, you could use some soul searching). Start thinking about what you want and stop worrying about others. Lastly, get your butt in the gym or do an activity you enjoy!

I will definitely be writing more blogs detailing my fitness journey and my soul searching process, but for now… this should be enough to get you started on your own journey. Hopefully now you understand that health is made up of three factors, not just one.
